Yoga Mudras

The Yoga Mudras are gestures for the entire body, but mostly for the hands, used in Hinduism and Buddhism. Mudra is a Sanskrit word that means seal, mark, gesture. In yoga, mudras are used in pranayama when you are sitting in the lotus position focused on your breathing. These gestures are helping and influencing the flow of energy in our body called prana. There are more than a hundred mundras used in Hinduism and Buddhism. They have different actions and benefits for our body.

Popular Yoga Mudras and their meanings and benefits

Vayu – The first one in our Yoga Mudras list. So you have to press your index fingers on the base of your thumb. Also, keep the thumb on the index finger and the other fingers straight. This mudra can help you deal with arthritis and the trembling caused of Parkinson’s disease though.

Shoonya – Press your middle finger to the base of the thumb. Let your thumb lean on the middle finger. Also keep the other fingers straight. This mudra is great for the health of your ears. It can help you relieve pain and diseases connected to your ears.

Surya – Place the tip of the ring finger to the base of the thumb. Press your thumb gently. Keep the other fingers straight. This one of the Yoga Mudras can help you lose weight.

Prana – Press the tip of the thumb, the little and the ring fingers. Keep the other fingers straight. It helps to energize your body with prana. It is good for recovering from any diseases, especially of the eyes.

Gyan – It is the most popular mundra from all Yoga Mudras. Join the tips of the thumb and the index finger. Join the rest of the fingers and keep them straight. It is a great mudra for relief from mental diseases. It fills you with happiness, improves your memory and intellect.

Ling – Interlock all of the fingers of both hands together. Keep the left thumb up and wrap the right thumb around it. This mudra is great in dealing with cold and cough. It helps your body to produce heat.

Apaan – Press the tip of the thumb to the tip of the middle finger. Keep the other fingers straight. This mudra helps elimination of toxins and cleaning of the body. It is great for urine obstruction and constipation.

These Yoga Mudras are easy to learn and practice. Also, they have a lot of benefits for your body that you should enjoy.
