The Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet is one of the healthiest diets that you can keep. It is said to mold itself after your genetics to help you stay fit and energetic! Counting calories is something that no one likes to do. However, by eliminating certain food types from your diet, you won’t have to worry about counting calories ever again.

The Paleo Diet is based mostly on the consumption of lean meat, fruits and vegetables. In addition to this, sugar, processed foods and white flour have to go, to ensure that you get enough nutrients.

What can you eat on a Paleo Diet?

Also called the Caveman Diet, this regime aims to make you consume what our cave ancestors did. This means fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, and nuts. By following it you can lower your glycemic load and achieve a balance of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Sounds good, doesn’t it? So, what can I eat when starting a Paleo Diet?

Fresh fruits. This diet revolves around the idea of eating foods that come directly from the earth. Try to choose fruits that have not been chemically treated. Go for the fresh and organic varieties that have not been exposed to dangerous pesticides.

Fresh vegetables. The same principle applies for vegetables too. Stay away from anything that has been treated with pesticides, antibiotics, and other chemicals.

Meat. This includes poultry, fish and lean meat too.

What should I avoid on a Paleo Diet?

Sugar. If you have a sweet tooth, then this is bad news for you. The Paleo Diet does not allow you to eat any sugar, unless it comes from a fruit. Sugar is bad for your health, and it can even turn to fat if it is not burned off properly. Sugar causes an energy spike and crash in your system, turns to fat unless it’s used immediately.

Grains. Back in the day, our ancestors did not eat grains either, therefore the Paleo Diet excludes them too.

However, even though cavemen did not have the diseases we do, food may not have been the reason why. Moreover, this diet does have its drawbacks, because it forbids lots of foods that certain people need. Approach the Paleo Diet carefully and consult with your doctor before starting it.
