The Alkaline Diet promises to help you lose weight and stay away from problems like arthritis and cancer. There is not much scientific evidence to back it up, but that does not mean it’s not good. Because you reduce the amount of processed foods and eat more fruits and vegetables, you can improve your health.

An Alkaline Diet aims to restore your body’s natural pH levels, especially those found in your blood and urine. Because pH levels are determined by the foods you eat, this diet limits your choices.

Dairy products, eggs, meat and processed foods are strictly forbidden. Anything that comes in a can or in a box is not allowed either. For a healthy lifestyle you should stick to eating only fresh produce and stay away from processed foods. Alcohol and coffee are also off limits due to their high acidic level.

However, this still leaves a lot of options on your list. Fresh fruits and vegetables are ideal, because they aid alkalinity the most. You can choose from: mushrooms, citrus, raisins, spinach, grapefruit, tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, kale, broccoli, green beans, cabbage, watermelon, figs and bananas.

In order to keep their level of alkalinity, it is recommended to eat raw produce too. By heating the food up, you make it lose some of its alkalizing minerals. Apart from cooked food, try to eat as much fresh fruits and vegetables as you can.

Some of the benefits of this diet include: better vitamin absorption, lowered risk towards heart attacks, reduced joint inflammation and better cholesterol levels. The Alkaline Diet has been shown to improve cardiovascular health and it can protect against various health issues.

Our modern lifestyle choices have led to an increase in metabolic acidosis. This means that the pH levels of the population are no longer in optimal condition. Therefore, the Alkaline Diet seems like an ideal solution towards solving the problem. Bear in mind that this diet is highly restrictive and its not made for anyone.
