stuffed french toast

Filling and Bread:
  • 1 tsp of sugar
  • 2 packages of cream cheese
  • ¼ tsp of cinnamon
  • 12 slices of turkey bacon, crisply cooked
  • 1 loaf of egg bread, such as challah
Egg Mixture:
  • 1 cup of milk
  • ¼ tsp of cinnamon
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp of nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp of butter

Stuffed French Toast

First of all, begin by heating up your oven at a temperature of 200 degrees. Take a small bowl then stir together the sugar, cinnamon powder and cream cheese. Now, take your loaf of bread and slice off its ends. Cut the loaf into six thick slices of about 1- 1 and ½ inches. Lay the slices of the bread with their flat side down onto a work surface. Carefully, slice a pocket into each side of the slices, making sure not to tear through the other side or ends of the bread.

Secondly, take 2 tablespoons of the softened cream cheese mixture and spread them into each bread pocket. Take the bacon slices, preferably cooked beforehand, and place two slices into each bread pocket. You can even crumble the slices a bit, to make them fit better.

Egg mixture:

First of all, in a large bowl, mix together the milk, vanilla, eggs, cinnamon and nutmeg. Now take each of the stuffed slices and dip them into the egg mixture until all sides are moistened. Do not soak them completely. Melt your butter into a large skillet, add din the bread slices then cook them over medium heat for 5 minutes. You can serve your French toast with maple syrup or confectioner’s sugar if desired.
