Shea Butter and Coconut Oil for Natural Hair

If you are looking for a great moisturizer, free of artificial fragrances and parabens, then natural is the best way to go. However, just buying a bunch of products to test out can get a bit pricey. Coconut oil and Shea butter are two of the best products to naturally hydrate and repair your hair. Both products have their own stark differences, therefore this article is to help you out. Here is how to use Shea Butter and Coconut Oil for natural hair:

Coconut Oil

Pros: Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties. This means that it will help you out if you’re suffering from fungal infections. In additions to this, it can also prevent moisture from escaping, being effective against dry hair.

Cons: If you’ve got oily hair, coconut oil may make things worse since it’s so greasy. Be careful not to over apply. When it comes to coconut oil less is always more.

Shea Butter

Pros: Shea butter has a slightly deeper moisturizing effect compared to coconut oil. A bonus: it’s anti-inflammatory, doing a superior job of soothing the skin of your scalp. As we all know, inflammation is one of the causes of dandruff. Be treating the source, you can get rid of the problem completely.

Cons: Literally none. Unless you have an allergy to it.

Therefore, in all of this equation, Shea butter is better, but only by a hair. It is superior because it works on all types of hair as well as skin types. However, using both Shea butter and coconut oil for natural hair is not something we recommend. It would seem as if you get the combined benefits but this is not the case. They become too heavy and act as a barrier between your hair and the water.

All in all, these are some of the pros and cons of both products. In the end, we each choose what is best for us. Therefore, think wisely and choose appropriately.
