It’s time we admit it: crackers are just something we use to eat cheese with. However, they can be so much more than that. Especially if you make them yourself. They are easy to do and so tasty you would not believe. You won’t even mind eating them on their own. Here is a recipe for rosemary and olive oil crackers to try:

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 2/3 cup of warm water
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • 1/3 cup of olive oil
  • rosemary and sea salt for garnish

First of all, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, water and olive oil into a bowl. This will create the dough for the crackers. Divide the dough into half and then roll out each piece onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Roll out the dough very thinly, making sure to cover the entire cookie sheet.

Then, you can proceed to add the toppings that you like. For this recipe we will use sea salt and fresh rosemary. It is fairly easy to grow your own herbs in pots on your balcony. You can use them in a variety of recipes in the future. Try spraying the top of the dough with a little bit of olive oil before you add the toppings. This helps it stick to the dough better. You can also use an egg wash if you like it better. With the egg finish, your crackers will get a glossy aspect.

You can cut the dough into squares with a sharp knife or with a rotary pizza cutter. This will give them a more rustic feeling. Bake the crackers into the oven at 435 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes, until they turn gold and crispy.

Let the crackers cool off slightly before you eat them. Try to experiment with different toppings and see what you like best. A people’s favorite are the Parmesan crackers, so you can keep that in mind.
