Firstly, Myofascial Release is an alternative medicine therapy. It treats muscle immobility and pain. It works by relaxing the contracted muscles, improving blood circulation and stimulating the muscles. The Myofascial Release healers use their hands to massage the the parts of the body that need to be treated.
Robert Ward and John Barnes developed this healing method. In the 1960s, Robert Ward, an osteopath, was the first person using the therm of “Myofascial Release”. This therapy has other names such as “myofascial therapy” or “myofascial trigger point therapy”.
Fascia represents a thin elastic tissue that wraps and connects structures within our body. But in time or due to traumas, infections or diseases, these tissues can become restricted. This can cause immobility issues and pain. In a healing session, they target these tissues and massage them to release the contraction and pain in the muscles and let the blood flow freely.
It is a hands on technique that works with the process of applying gentle pressure into connective tissues. These pressures restore motion and eliminate the pain caused by restrictions in the tissue. The Myofascial tissue will elongate again and restore the mobility and great function to the muscles. Most of the standard medical tests can’t show the tissue restrictions. But they are a big and painful issue for the patient. A simple Myofascial restriction can produce a tensile pressure of almost 2,000 pounds. Moving and doing simple daily things are almost impossible for the patient because of the pain.
Is it effective?
Every Myofascial Release session is unique. The therapist will take his time to find out the source of the pain. And then apply different techniques and movements the release the pain and to help the blood flow in the effected zone. These techniques are performed directly on the skin. There are no oils, creams or gels used, only the bare hands. Oils and creams can cumber the therapist from finding the Myofascial restriction and applying the proper pressure to the tissue.
So, this is Myofascial Release. An alternative medicine therapy with no contraindications. There are many Myofascial Release centers all over the world where you can find your own therapist.
