Homemade Shea Body Butter
Making homemade products is extremely satisfying. You get to try your hand at creating something and you also have control over what you use. Buying from shops means chemical products and unknown side-effects. In addition to this, making your own products means more gifts to share with your friends. Everyone loves something handmade because you put effort into it. Because we love Shea butter and its many benefits, today we are making Shea body butter!
This recipe is not difficult to do and is quick too. Test out your hand in making Shea body butter and try to experiment if you feel confident. By whipping the mixture you get a cloud-like fluffy substance that is full of nourishing goodness. You can use this on babies or sensitive skin. By adding in essential oils you can personalize it according to your tastes or of the person you’re giving it to.
How to Make Shea Body Butter
You will need the following ingredients:
- ½ cup of cocoa or mango butter
- ½ cup of Shea butter
- 1/3 cup of coconut oil
- Optional: essential oils – about 20 drops
First of all, you will need a double broiler or a glass bowl. You can try melting and mixing your ingredients above a pot of boiling water too. Take the bowl and then combine all of your ingredients together. Leave out the essential oils, however. Keep everything over medium heat and stir until all the ingredients melt.
Secondly, remove from the heat and then let everything cool off slightly. After it does, you can incorporate the essential oils too. Move the bowl to the fridge and let it cool for one hour. The mixture should harden somewhat, but not completely. Take it out and use a hand mixer to whip it for 10 minutes. It will become light and fluffy.
The last step is to return it to the fridge for 15 more minutes, to set a bit. Store it in a nice, glass container with a lid. Use it just as you would any other body lotion. If it gets exposed to heat, it will soften a little. Other than that, this Shea body butter keeps pretty well.
