Homemade Devil Dogs

Take comfort food to the max with these devil dogs treats! The store bought version of this dessert is filled with ingredients that you would never find in your kitchen. This is why it’s better to make them yourself.

Cake:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • ¾ cup of milk
  • 6 tbsp of butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract

Marshmallow Cream:

  • 6 tbsp of unsalted butter
  • 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar
  • one jar of marshmallow cream
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract

Homemade Devil Dogs

Firstly, take a large bowl and combine the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in it. Whisk all of the dry ingredients on low speed with your mixer. Add in the melted butter, egg, milk and vanilla extract and mix them on low speed to combine them. Raise the speed up to medium and continue mixing for 2 more minutes, to make a smooth and even batter.

Secondly, heat up your oven at 350 degrees, then line two baking sheets with some parchment paper. Transfer all of your batter into a pastry bag with a fitted plain tip. Pipe out the batter in the shape of Milano cookies, but wider at the ends. Make sure you have an even number of them! Cook them for 10 minutes in the oven, letting them cool when you are done.

Lastly, to make the marshmallow cream, take the butter and beat it with a mixer until it becomes fluffy. Add in confectioners’ sugar, vanilla and marshmallow cream and continue mixing. Put this mixture into another pastry bag, then squeeze some out onto the cakes. Place one cake on top of another to make a sandwich, then place your devil dogs into the refrigerator for one hour.
