Deep Dish Potato Kugel

This potato kugel dish is a fun and easy recipe that is perfect for spring. Here are the ingredients as well as what you need in order to make the dish:

Potato Kugel

  • 7 eggs
  • 1 tbsp of canola oil
  • 3 pounds of potatoes
  • 1 tsp of kosher salt
  • ½ a teaspoon of ground black pepper

Deep Dish Potato Kugel

First of all, begin by heating your oven up at 400 degrees. Take a square glass baking dish and coat it thoroughly with canola oil. When you do this, swipe the oil over the bottom as well as the sides of the dish. Once you are done, set it aside for the moment.

Secondly, take the potatoes and peel them, making sure to rinse them in cold water afterwards. Grate them into a large bowl on the smallest side of a grate. Add salt, pepper, one tablespoon of oil and the eggs. Using your hand, mix everything together, breaking off the egg yolks until all of the ingredients are combined. Take the prepared dish and pour everything inside. Bake at 400 degrees for one hour until the top becomes crispy.

Once you reach the 45 minute mark, check up on your kugel. If it rises in the center, use a fork to poke holes in it. Use the back of your fork to pat down the surface and flatten it completely. Do not worry if your potato kugel does not rise. This is a good sign.

Lastly, remove your kugel from the oven, and using a knife separate the kugel from the walls of the pan. Pay attention to the corners and make sure not to break it. Cut it into squares before serving it at the table so it won’t dry out. This dish should have enough servings for 6 to 8 people.
