Benadryl is a mild sedative. This is why it can have a hypnotic effect on certain people. For this reason, many question whether one can use it to treat anxiety. Unfortunately, there are no good news for people who want to use Benadryl for anxiety. In larger doses or even prolonged exposure to it can cause a severe impact on your nervous system.

Because of its sedative-like effect, most people take this medicine during the night. However, if you want to take it during the day for your anxiety, you might find yourself drowsy. Therefore, it is now quite as effective as you might think. An up side to this medicine is that it does not cause addiction and it’s also fairly inexpensive. The down sides, because it has one, is that it loses its effectiveness over time. Meaning that you develop a tolerance to it.

It is best to use Benadryl only when you need it, and not as a daily medicine. Especially when it comes to keeping your anxiety in check. Talk to a specialist if you have troubles with your anxiety. They will recommend you some medicine that you can safely take.
